How to Be a Nightclub Promoter
I get approached and emailed all the time from people wanting to know how to be a nightclub promoter. It’s a lot simpler than most people would expect. You just have to love talking to people and know who to meet.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do you love people? Do you love talking to them, hanging out with them, meeting them, etc.?
- Are you reliable? If a club manager puts his trust in you to make both of you over $1,000, can you be depended on to do that?
- Are you persistent? Nightclub promoting can be frustrating at times. For example, sometimes not as many people as you hoped may have attended a party you promoted.
When it comes how to be a nightclub promoter it’s not that complicated. Here’s a quick blueprint for you.
1. Figure out how many people you think you could get out on any given night? For instance, if I was hosting a party tonight, and I told you I needed you to bring 30 people. Do you think you could do it? Sometimes it helps to write out a list of people you know or who you party with to figure this out.
2. What kind of clubs or bars do you want to promote for? To be honest, if you want to go straight to the best club in town, it’s not going to happen overnight. There’s a whole network of promoters and managers who need to trust your ability to get people through the door before any serious business happens. But you need to start somewhere, so where could you start?
3. Find out who’s currently promoting in your area and where. This is important from a networking point of view. You need to know where the current nightclub promoters are at any given night.
It also helps to go to those nights and introduce yourself, get to know them a bit, maybe even buy them a drink or something.
Just remember, it’s not hard to get started but it takes work. This industry sees people come and go all the time but it’s a matter of who’s dedicated enough to stick around.

Sounds like you want to start a street team, to help promoters market their shows. You will find free information on how to start a business like that at http://concertpromousa.com. Then, go online (facebook, myspace, etc.) to network with promoters in your area. Offer your services and take it from there. Good luck.
